What does it say about Pres Obama? all this wooing of dictators and tyrants? What is the old saying: We are the company we keep?
More importantly what does it mean for the American people? for the preservation of our country and it’s founding principles?
- Suppose Obama succeeds in building friendships with Chavez, Castro, Ahmadinejad and the Taliban. What then? Does America still get to feel that it stands for something? Will we still be the beacon of liberty and freedom to the rest of the world, or will we have sold out in the name of political expediency? And do any of us seriously believe that presidential friendship is going to get a megalomaniac like Hugo Chavez to ease up on the levers of power, or are we just feeding his ego by showing him he can be a tyrant and still have a beer with the president of the United States? Will the Iranians really stop enriching uranium through diplomacy rather than economic sanctions?
Apparently Pres Obama is more concerned about his standing, his appearance, his likability than about the policies of the US. It is becoming more and more apparent that our current President is confused about the difference between him and his office. They are not one and the same.

Great Presidents like Reagan would never do what Obama’s doing (except with Saddam in the 1980s obviously).
This wouldn’t have happened under McCain (even though he referred to a meeting he had with Pinochet as “warm and friendly”)
And Nixon, who in the 50s visited ex Cuban President, Batista and congratulated him on his election victory despite that fact that Batista had wiped out his political opponents and was the only candidate in that election.
But of course, when a dictator is on the right wing, America doesn’t seem to care as much.

Yes. We care. Americans always care. We don’t always agree with everything that our government does from either side of the fence. Sometimes they make mistakes and sometimes they make calculated moves and lie down with dogs.
There is a major difference between what Reagan did and what Obama is doing. 1) Reagan sent envoys. He never lent the prestige of the Office of the Presidency to the dictators, because that would have legitimized them. 2) Obama has told us even before he was elected that he was embarrassed by his own country and that he was going to employ direct negotiations with crazy dictators.
I believe Pres. Obama either hasn’t grasped that he and the Office are not the same (he is assuming the Presidency not the other way around) or he is so convinced of his own allure and abilities that he believes he can chat these guys up and tada – they’ll change their evil ways.
Two wrongs don’t make a right.
