Oopsie. Pakistan’s Deal With the Taliban Backfiring? (A New Front on the War on Terror)

Wednesday, April 23, 2009: The Pakistan government made an agreement with the Taliban to allow them to implement Sharia law (Islamic law) in the Swat region of Pakistan.

Instead of laying down their arms, the Taliban, just a day later, moved to within 60 miles of the capital of Pakistan.

“President Asif Ali Zardari has blamed the Taliban for a wave of assassinations in Swat in recent months, and he condemned a recent video that showed militants flogging a young woman they accused of having an improper relationship.”

Attack on Religion via Same-Sex “Marriage”

Connecticut has had civil unions for same-sex couples since 2005. The law which allowed the civil unions provided homosexual couples with full legal equity under the law as those of married couples. It wasn’t enough. Homosexuals wanted to be able to wed.

It (Bill 899) redefines marriage in Connecticut as the legal union of two people. State law previously defined marriage as the union of a man and a woman.

From CNA Article:

Bishop Lori warned, the legislation does not protect the First Amendment religious freedoms of individuals, religious organizations, and related societies.”

“When you contact the State Legislature about Bill 899, you may be told that it exempts clergy from having to officiate at same-sex weddings. But this bill does not guarantee the First Amendment rights of clergy, religious, and laity to practice their faith and operate their programs and services in accordance with their sincerely-held religious beliefs,” he said.

Some effects of legally redefining marriage as between Party A & Party B:

  1. government indoctrination in sexual lifestyles that are contrary to our beliefs via new school curriculum
  2. individuals and religious groups, particularly those that provide social and educational services, would be subject to “civil harassment in the form of lawsuits.”
  3. Catholic Charities in the Archdiocese of Boston were forced to halt adoption services because it would not place children with homosexual couples
  4. in Canada the Knights of Columbus were fined for refusing to rent their hall for a homosexual wedding reception
  5. child welfare system will be working with the homosexual activist group Human Rights Campaign on an “exciting new initiative” called “All Children All Families.” The initiative reportedly will help the child welfare system “find permanent families for children by promoting fairness for LGBT foster and adoptive parents and even our mentors.”

Obama Transforms the USA Into a Banana Republic: Prosecution of Previous Admin.

It is far from over the top to recognize the error of the Left, specifically Pres. Obama, in their desire to prosecute the legal actions of the previous Bush administration.

From WSJ Opinion piece:

Policy disputes, often bitter, are the stuff of democratic politics. Elections settle those battles, at least for a time, and Mr. Obama’s victory in November has given him the right to change policies on interrogations, Guantanamo, or anything on which he can muster enough support. But at least until now, the U.S. political system has avoided the spectacle of a new Administration prosecuting its predecessor for policy disagreements. This is what happens in Argentina, Malaysia or Peru, countries where the law is treated merely as an extension of political power…

So the CIA requests a legal review at a moment of heightened danger, the Justice Department obliges with an exceedingly detailed analysis of the law and interrogation practices — and, seven years later, Mr. Obama says only the legal advisers who are no longer in government should be investigated. The political convenience of this distinction for Mr. Obama betrays its basic injustice. And by the way, everyone agrees that senior officials, including President Bush, approved these interrogations. Is this President going to put his predecessor in the dock too?
